Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain refers to discomfort or pain that occurs in the lower abdomen, pelvis, or genital area. It can vary in intensity and duration and may be acute or chronic. Pelvic pain can have various causes, including gynecological conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), or uterine fibroids.

In addition to gynecological issues, pelvic pain can also be caused by urinary tract infections (UTIs), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), pelvic floor dysfunction, musculoskeletal problems, or nerve disorders.

The symptoms of pelvic pain can vary depending on the underlying cause but may include a dull ache, sharp stabbing pain, cramping, pressure, or discomfort during intercourse or bowel movements.

TREATMENT

Treatment is directed at the identified cause and laparoscopy affords a greater advantage over open surgery because of greater magnification and better identification of pathology.
