Endometrial Cancer

Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium. It is the most common type of uterine cancer.

Endometrial cancer typically develops when cells in the endometrium begin to grow uncontrollably, forming a mass or tumor. The exact cause of endometrial cancer is not fully understood, but risk factors may include hormonal imbalances, obesity, diabetes, certain genetic conditions, and hormone therapy without progesterone.

Symptoms of endometrial cancer may include abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as bleeding between periods, after menopause, or heavier or longer menstrual periods. Other symptoms can include pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, and unusual vaginal discharge.

TREATMENT

There are several treatment options available to treat endometrial cancer. This treatment varies on which stage cancer the patient have. Usually endometrial cancer is detected early due to the symptom of vaginal bleeding. If it is detected early, a surgery is recommended.

Hysterectomy: Hysterectomy is a procedure in which the patient’s uterus is removed. Therefore childbirth is not possible after this procedure. The doctor may remove the fallopian tubes as well as the ovaries.

ChemotherapyPatients having advanced stage of endometrial cancer may be treated with chemotherapy to kill any remaining cancerous cells. Chemotherapy is a form of cancer treatment, wherein, the patient is administrated medicine and drugs through injections, abdominal opening or both.
